Learning About Breakthrough

It can seem like God is silent and unconcerned when you’re waiting on a breakthrough. But what if He designed it that way on purpose? What if this place of dependence on Him is exactly where He’s wanted you to be all along?

We don’t always know why God chooses to act or remain still, but we do have a hope and a guarantee that He has a good plan for each of us. “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

So what do you do while waiting for your breakthrough? Here are a few tips we think will help:

1. Persevere – In other words, don’t give up! Remember, trials produce “perseverance, and perseverance, character; and character, hope.” (Romans 5:3-4) Hope is the key to unlock your breakthrough! Keep trusting God. He’ll prove time after time that you can take Him at His Word.

2. Position – You can’t earn God’s favor or blessing, but you can position yourself to receive it. This starts by examining your life and allowing God to show you areas that need His attention. For example, maybe you need to forgive someone who’s hurt you? Or, God might be calling you to make spending time with Him a more consistent part of your life. Just ask Him! He wants to reveal His will to you and put you on a path to success. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)

3. Pray – Don’t hesitate to go to God in prayer and ask Him to meet your need. He is an amazing Father and He knows exactly how care for His children. “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in Heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” (Matthew 7:11) Once you ask, be sure to thank Him for bringing your breakthrough! You may not see it yet, but praise is a powerful way to knock on Heaven’s door and gain access to what’s inside.

4. Perspective – Be sure to watch the programs below and let God use them to give you a fresh look at your situation. Many times the Lord deals with our hearts well before addressing our circumstances. Jesus didn’t promise us that we would never face trials, but He did promise that through Him, we will always win. “I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” (2 Corinthians 4:16-17)

Imagine being wrongly accused of murder and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. For Susan Mellen, that nightmare became her reality when she was arrested in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant where she had taken her daughter to get a happy meal. Despite no evidence to support the verdict, Susan was found guilty and spent the next 17 years in prison. In a story that made national headlines, hear how God stepped in to bring freedom and breakthrough before the bars were ever removed.
